WGBH Online: Realty Perks - FAQ for Agents

Thank you for inquiring about the WGBH Realty Perks program. We are very grateful for the positive response from the brokerage industry to this unique program. If you are a licensed agent or broker familiar with on-line referrals, and would like to join our network, we would welcome the opportunity to work with you.

Our network of agents must sign an agent "code of conduct" and must be interviewed and screened for professionalism, responsiveness and market knowledge. There is no cost to join the program. The program is being offered by HomeGift Realty, Inc., a licensed Massachusetts real estate corporation that works with agents and non-profits across the country.

The HomeGift difference is this — we give up to 70 percent of our income away — in the form of a rebate to your buyer or seller and/or a donation to their favorite non-profit. Now that is a referral fee you and your client can feel good about!

Q. What are the benefits to becoming a Realty Perks agent or broker?

A. We are not a “lead generator.” When we call you, we are calling you with a real listing or a serious buyer. By becoming part of our agent network, you will be eligible for opportunities that come from our relationship with thousands of supporters of WGBH and other non-profit organizations around the country.

Q. Why should I pay a referral fee to another “on-line” company?

A. A lot of companies charge you referral fees and pocket the entire fees themselves. We don't do that. We give up to 70 percent of our referral fees away - either to your customers or to charities. Some companies charge referral fees of 35 percent. We charge less and we make you more competitive because your client is getting a rebate from the referral fee.

Q. How do I sign up to become a Realty Perks agent or broker?

A. If you are licensed and in good standing with your state real estate licensing agency, then you are eligible to participate, as long as you are willing to follow our professional guidelines and requirements. After a successful interview and screening process, you will be entered into our network. Agents in our network are eligible to receive future referrals in their zip code area.

Q. Is there any cost to join?

A. No cost. We do, however, screen our agents for experience, professionalism and proximity to the subject property or buyer’s desired location. Please don’t stretch your zip code coverage area.

Q. Are rebates available in all states?

A. No. There are still 10 states that prohibit rebates, although that is changing fast. After U.S. Justice Department action in Kentucky this year that forced rebates to be allowed to consumers, many states are now allowing this new choice to consumers.

Q. Do I get credit for the payment to the non-profit organization?

A. We do track and monitor the amount of payments each agent is responsible for getting to non-profit organizations. Our top agents will get ready-made press releases submitted to local media or for display in their office.
